A Post Entitled Best/Worst of 2010.

In keeping with tradition, here’s my top ten list of best events in 2010 and worst events of 2010, ranked in the order that they most impacted my life. As opposed to last year, the good, by far, outweighed the bad in 2010.

The Best Events of 2010:

1. Got accepted to the Creative Writing Workshop at the University of New Orleans. (March 26)

2. Befriended a hot girl in my class who likes food, dogs and writing.

3. Discovered the beauty of Vermont and the kindness of Vermonters. Especially people with names like Reed, Gustafson and Lawson. (May 13-July 13)

4. Found someone to rent my house, thus relieving me of a monthly mortgage payment. (May 11)
5. Worked at The House restaurant for a bit. Had a great time, got to spend some much-needed time with some old friends, made some new ones, too. (February 1-April 27ish)
6. Started keeping a photo-a-day blog. (January 4)
7. While on the way to and from Vermont, had a nice road trip, made friends in Philadelphia, NYC and saw Niagara Falls. (April 28-May 13, July 13 & 14)
8. Made some serious progress in researching my family history. (July-December)
9. Got Bone’s sketchy ass to finally write me a check. (February 8)
10. Had an awesome weekend of films, food and music at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival. (October 21-24)

The Worst Events of 2010:

1. Developed an as-yet-unidentified health issue/Haven’t had a solid poop since late June. (Late June-present)

2. Got denied my previously promised (and rightfully earned) VA health care/realized I have no health care. (Early September)

3. Lost self-discipline and gave up my vegetarianism, which I’d been practicing for a year and a half. (February 21)

4. Because of a requirement to write multiple literature papers, I almost convinced myself to drop out of the Writing Workshop. (November 30, among other days)

5. Turned into a weirdo and became obsessed with researching my family history. (July-December)

6. Finished 4th, immediately outside the pay bubble, in the Beebe Poker Classic after gaining some serious momentum at the final table. (December 17)
7. My first couple of weeks in New Orleans, I got three parking tickets; two of which I got within two hours of each other, having never even moved my truck. (Early August)
8. Realized 21 days too late that the girl I was dating wasn’t dating me. (May 12)
9. Kaia ran into a rusty barbed wire fence while chasing an animal of some sort. (July 27)
10. Realized I’m not smart enough to play Bridge. (January 20)
